Raising financial support for a mission trip can be a daunting task. In general, we like to be self-sufficient so asking for financial help is awkward and uncomfortable. Yet, when God calls us to be ‘on mission’ for him, we are compelled to obey. Focusing on your ministry endeavor is important as you ask for prayer support and financial support. Whether in writing or verbally, share a personal story about a person/ministry need from the ministry site you are heading to. Next, express why you are compelled to go and what you hope to accomplish. End with “Would you help sponsor ‘the new house for Pablo & Lydia’ or ‘ a new roof for the Johnson family in rural Appalachia’
Other ideas:
-
Issue “stock” in increments of $25.00. Prepare a prototype with your ministry endeavor listed.
-
Offer to provide a service. Wash their dog, do a home project for them (think creatively).
-
Sell: cookie dough, gourmet coffee, make earrings (check out online opportunities for non-profits).
-
Have a large garage sale. Ask people to contribute some of their ‘stuff’ to the sale.
Above all, remember you are asking for prayer and financial support for the recipients of your ministry endeavor and you are called by God to go!
