The Timothy Project, founded in 2007, has its beginnings in assisting missionaries Mike and Fran Graham with their ministry to families immigrating from the former Soviet Union. One of the many facets of WNC Slavic Ministries is a vision of encouraging Slavic youth and American youth to work for the common good by joining together in missions. From that point, The Timothy Project has been about listening to people’s needs and trying to find ways to address them. Through the generous efforts of church youth and college groups around the southeast and mid-Atlantic, a difference has been made in many lives and the love of God has been shared in word and deed. “ Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus…” Philippians 2: 5-11
The Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry is an important partner for us in Asheville and the surrounding area. Founded in 1969 by eight Buncombe County churches, ABCCM is now a cooperative ministry of more than 260 churches accomplishing what individual congregations cannot accomplish alone.
The Council on Aging for Asheville/Buncombe County is a frequent source of referrals and needs, especially for older people. COA is “Dedicated to assisting and linking senior adults and their families with information, opportunities and services that promote and enhance quality of life.”
Meals on Wheels of Asheville-Buncombe County provides an invaluable resource to homebound seniors. While visiting clients to assess dietary needs, MOW social workers make note of living conditions and make appropriate referrals to The Timothy Project. We believe it is important as Christians to care for those who are not so able to care for themselves. This often translates into efforts to assist the elderly in their desire to maintain a life of dignity and independence in their later years.
The Western North Carolina Alliance for Independent Living does just that and we are pleased to partner with them.
